Quotes from the book

THE ORION CONSPIRACY

  • " 'This is no small-time cult, sir. It's a well-established church with more than eleven million members spread out in almost every country of the world.' " Page 431

  • " 'Seventh-day Adventist, huh? I've always thought of them as kind of a harmless lot. They're really health conscious and make a big thing over going to church on Saturday, but other than that, I haven't heard much about them except that when people travel in the Third World, they always like to know where the Adventist hospitals are in case they get sick - they operate some good hospitals, I guess.' " Page 432

  • " 'Our assessment is that it will be best to keep hammering on the importance of your (the U. S. president's) message, using all the political, economic, and, where necessary, military clout we can to get other nations to fall into line and to practically ignore Judson's speech' (this speech, by a Seventh-day Adventist character in the novel, is explaining to the world what the SDA Church really teaches concerning doom's day events and the seventh-day Sabbath), 'treating it like the ravings of a lunatic cult leader like Jim Jones, David Koresh, Samuel Perkins, and their type.' " Page 409

  • " 'In the meantime, we've launched a full investigation into the Seventh-day Adventist Church's activities worldwide. We're working on their world leadership to issue a categorical repudiation of Judson's views. They've always been pretty careful to disassociate themselves from the fringe elements in the past. The church itself was pretty much regarded as a cult up until the seventies and after that, they came to be recognized as basically mainstream Christian. Doctrinally, they are mainstream Christian, but they do have some odd views of prophecy.' " Pages 409 and 410

  • " 'Mr. Hernandez' (the novel's Mr. Phillips, from the Secret Service, is speaking to the General Conference president), 'it has come to our attention that there may be some teachings of the Seventh-day Adventist Church that run contrary to national security measures that have just been implemented.' " Page 396

  • " 'They've (the Secret Service) arrested Elder Hernandez, the General Conference president, and several of the vice-presidents (of the Seventh-day Adventist Church). Some church administrators who were traveling in other countries have been arrested and thrown in jail there. It's a worldwide thing.' " Page 446

  • My wife, Denise, and I were both born and raised as Seventh-day Adventists. Denise and I went to SDA private schools most of our lives, so the majority of friends we made growing up are SDAs.

Denise also has many family members on her father's side of the family who are Seventh-day Adventists and love their church with all their hearts. Many of her family members have worked, and continue to work, very hard as SDA school teachers, ministers, administrators and managers.

I also have family members who are Seventh-day Adventists. My father worked very hard for the SDA Church as a minister and administrator and, even after retirement and a stroke, continues to preach the SDA message to anyone who will listen.

Even though Denise and I have felt for a long time that the information contained in this summary is very important, we have held off writing it down because we have not wanted to hurt our friends and family members by exposing information about the leaders of the very church they would give their lives for. My father had also asked me not to do anything to hurt the SDA Church, and out of respect for his request I chose to remain as quiet as possible.

With this in mind Denise and I decided that instead of using up our energy looking back at the past, and those who hurt us, it was important for us to put our energy into rebuilding our lives. Denise and I decided to cut our losses, get married and begin a new life for ourselves.

Everything changed when John Thiele, an SDA friend, and I were indicted, by a federal grand jury, and then arrested. Denise, Thiele and I know that Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure (President and Vice-President of the world SDA Church) are behind Thiele's and my indictment, and that they are really after me. We also now know that Thiele and I will not be allowed to live normal and free lives until the SDA leaders are ordered by a judge and/or government agency to leave us and our families alone. Denise and I have decided that its time for the enclosed information to be told.

Unbelievably, there is one common thread behind the raid against David Koresh at Mt. Carmel in Waco, Texas, and our indictment. That common thread is Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure.

We believe that the information contained in this writing is vital to any investigation that may be conducted into the BATF raid on Mt. Carmel, and the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Denise and I hold nothing against the SDA Church in general, but its the leaders of the SDA Church that we have a problem with. Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure are two very corrupt, dishonest and dangerous men who, as leaders of the world SDA Church, hold a lot of power over the lives of the SDA Church believers. We feel that the members of the SDA Church deserve to have righteous and honest men as their leaders.

In 1983 to 1984 Joseph J. Battistone ("Battistone"), a minister and teacher of the SDA Church, shared some of his thoughts and insights with me concerning the teachings and prophesies of the SDA Church. Battistone told me that he wanted to disassociate himself from the SDA theology. I have included in this writing some of the ideas and thoughts Battistone and I discussed.

I have also included insights into a novel called The Orion Conspiracy which was recently published by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which explains their belief in story form on how the world will end and how the end of the world is connected to the SDA interpretation of the seventh-day Sabbath observance.

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    1) David Koresh ("Koresh") was raised as a Seventh-day Adventist ("SDA").

    2) David Koresh was born Vernon Howell, and later changed his name to David Koresh.

    3) David Koresh was educated in the private religious SDA grammar schools and high schools, each owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

    4) During high school, David Koresh left the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and began to follow the teachings of another cult that had branched off from the Seventh-day Adventist Church decades earlier. It was called the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church ("Branch Davidian").

    5) David Koresh became the leader of the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church. In that capacity Koresh began an aggressive campaign to convert more Seventh-day Adventist members to the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church.

This included sending missionaries from Waco to the large SDA churches and colleges, to teach and convert as many SDA members as possible to the Branch Davidian SDA Church.

David Koresh was someway getting a very secret mailing list from the SDA Church. With this list Koresh was aggressively mailing out Branch Davidian material to new converts of the SDA Church. This written material was making many of the new SDA converts question the very teachings they had just learned and accepted. (Most of the members of the Branch Davidian SDA Church are past members of the SDA Church.) This was causing Robert Folkenberg (President of the world SDA Church) a major headache. ( Exhibit # 1 )

New members are vital to the financial stability of the SDA Church, because so many members who were raised as SDA children leave the church and stop paying the very needed tithe dollars.

Over the past thirty years the SDA Church has been forced to mortgage itself, and is in a fragile financial position. If the SDA Church was to collapse, Folkenberg and McClure would probably find themselves being investigated for criminal wrongdoing, misappropriation and misuse of U.S. government gifts and SDA funds, and without the financial backing to protect and defend themselves.

    1) David Steiner ("Steiner") was raised as a Seventh-day Adventist ("SDA").

    2) David Steiner was born Vernon Leggett, and later changed his name to David Steiner. ( Exhibit # 2 )

    3) David Steiner was educated in the private religious SDA grammar schools and high schools, each owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

    4) Steiner left the Seventh-day Adventist Church and returned to the study of Judaism, the faith of his mother's ancestors.

    5) Steiner has a broad enough background in the Oral Law, otherwise known as the Talmud or the Oral Torah (Torah she-be-al-peh), to be able to question and expose how untrue the SDA Church teachings on the Sabbath are.

In 1984 Joseph Battistone (minister of the SDA Church) told Steiner that not one scholar in the Seventh-day Adventist Church was prepared to answer the kind of questions Steiner was raising about the Sabbath, and how it relates or does not relate to non-Jews.

Battistone told Steiner that Steiner would make the leaders of the SDA Church look bad to new converts, if Steiner was to write in book form the kinds of questions that Steiner was raising. Battistone told Steiner that the SDA leaders were very sensitive about looking like they knew what they were talking about, and that they would stop Steiner from getting to the point where Steiner could make them look ignorant.

The very name and existence of the SDA Church is predicated on the survival of the SDA version of the Sabbath. The SDA Church teaches that the United States government is going to pass a "Sunday Law" that will not allow SDAs to continue to worship on Saturday as their Sabbath.

The SDA Church members teach their children that sometime after the "Sunday Law" is passed the U.S. government will persecute, imprison and even kill them if they try to worship on Saturday instead of Sunday. Their children are also taught that they need to be willing to hold their parents' hands, stay with their parents and die rather than be forced not to worship on Saturday. This is why it was very important to David Koresh that he keep the children with him and his followers during the siege of Mount Carmel. Koresh always knew that the children were going to die with him, as he had prophesied. (Exhibit # 3 )

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    6) David Koresh began to prepare the members of the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church for a war they planned to start. They were stockpiling weapons at Mount Carmel to be used to go to war against the SDA Church leaders, not the U.S. government.

Koresh prophesied that after the corrupt leaders of the SDA Church were killed, as well as the SDA Church members who would not follow Koresh, Koresh would be elevated to the position of President and final prophet of the world Seventh-day Adventist Church (The SDA prophetess, Ellen G. White, taught that before the world was destroyed by fire, there might be one last prophet. Koresh taught that he was that last prophet, and Koresh took it a step further and taught that Koresh was the "Mashiach", otherwise known as the Messiah.) Koresh prophesied that as President of the SDA Church and Messiah of the world, the United States government and world would fall into line under his leadership and control.

Folkenberg and Alfred McClure ("McClure") knew that David Koresh was threatening their lives, and the lives of many SDA Church members. They began devising a way to dupe the U.S. government into taking care of the Koresh situation so that the SDA Church would not have Koresh's blood on its hands.

    7) The watchdog committees of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists had watched the Branch Davidians closely, from the year they were conceived by Victor Houteff in 1929 (then called "The Shepherd's Rod") until the present. ( Exhibit # 4 )

Folkenberg and McClure had many reports on the intentions of David Koresh for several years prior to the raid on Mount Carmel. McClure was very interested and involved with Folkenberg in determining how and when to use their resources to destroy Koresh because McClure is the president of the North American Division of the SDA Church, and most of the Davidians live in the United States. (Exhibit # 5)

The teachings of the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Seventh-day Adventist Church are approximately 99% the same. No one else on earth understands the teachings and history of the Branch Davidian SDA Church better than the Seventh-day Adventist Church leaders. ( Exhibit #6 )

    6) David Steiner knew too much about how Folkenberg and McClure became the leaders of the SDA Church, and how they planned to secretly alter the direction and teachings of the world SDA Church.

By "knowing to much" Steiner was a threat to the political lives of Folkenberg and McClure, as Koresh was a threat to the physical lives of Folkenberg and McClure.

Folkenberg needed Steiner's reputation and integrity destroyed before some other political force within the SDA Church became aware of The Rebok Research Foundation (1983) information, and used that information to remove Folkenberg and McClure from their control of a multi-billion dollar church.
    ( Exhibit # 7 )

    7) The physician who delivered Steiner at birth was Alfred McClure's uncle on his father's side, Dr. McClure.

Steiner's father, Elder Hugh Leggett, is a retired SDA minister. Hugh Leggett also worked as Alfred McClure's vice-president when McClure was President of the Kentucky/Tennessee Conference of SDAs.

Steiner's father never hid the fact that he wanted Steiner to follow him as a minister, and that he also wanted to prepare the way for Steiner to be involved in SDA Church administration when appropriate.

This meant that many of the close friends and associates of Steiner's father, whose families now run the SDA Church, watched Steiner's family as Steiner's brothers and Steiner grew up to see if any of them would fulfill the hopes and desires of Steiner's father to become SDA Church administrators.

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    8) Folkenberg and McClure were concerned for their lives but did not want to voice their concern because it would draw attention to the fact that the Seventh-day Adventist Church was very closely connected to the Branch Dividian Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Folkenberg and McClure also knew that if they began to discuss the views of the Branch Davidian SDA Church, concerning the threat on the lives of themselves and other SDA Church members, that the discussion itself might trigger a federal government investigation into ties between the two SDA Churches.

Folkenberg and McClure decided that it was important that their request to investigate Koresh, being taken to the state and federal agencies, hide and conceal the fact that their lives were being threatened.

By withholding certain information from the federal government, Folkenberg and McClure were involved in misrepresenting the facts to the government.

    9) Folkenberg and McClure began sending a message to state and federal agencies that it was vital that David Koresh and his followers be investigated and then dealt with in court.

Folkenberg and McClure used a female, Mrs. Shirley Burton (Director of Communications for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists), as the lead messenger from the SDA Church to the U.S. federal government and the state of Texas. The pressure on the government by Shirley Burton was supported by a large and organized effort within the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. ( Exhibit #8 )

    8) Folkenberg and McClure were concerned about their political and theological lives, but did not want to make that concern an issue. They were afraid that it might put them in a position where they would be forced to speak out about the charges that were made in the written histories called The Rebok Revelation and The Seventh-day Adventist Connection, which expose their intentions as leaders of the SDA Church. ( Exhibit # 9 )

By conducting a character assassination of Steiner, and keeping their efforts a secret, Folkenberg and McClure put themselves in a position to were they didn't have to worry about being re-elected to their positions of power. Those who held the keys to voting Folkenberg and McClure into office were told that Steiner was not a credible person because of Steiner's indictment, and that anything that Steiner said about The Rebok Research Foundation of 1983 and its relationship to them was a lie.

Every 5 years the world SDA Church leaders from all over the world meet, and the SDA Church delegates vote in a new General Conference president and vice-president. On June 29, 1995 in Utrecht, Netherlands, Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure were voted back into office for five more years. It has been reported by those who were present that they were physically protected by a large and private group of security guards.

The general membership of the SDA Church is not aware, to this day, of the role that Folkenberg and McClure have played in their attempt to destroy Steiner and assassinate Steiner's character.

    9) For approximately ten years Folkenberg and McClure have used a female, Helen Rogers (an attorney who worked for the SDA Church), to spread false allegations from federal civil court filings that Rogers hasn't even been able to prove about Steiner's life and work. Folkenberg and McClure have also used Rogers to misrepresent facts and accuse Steiner of being a fraud and a criminal and conduct others to do the same to try, to create a pattern to the FBI. ( Exhibit # 10 )

Folkenberg and McClure used their power and influence in communities where there were SDA churches and SDA hospitals to get their ministers and hospital administrators to suggest to the community that Steiner was involved in Satan worship.

This caused Steiner's associates in business to want to disassociate themselves from him to make sure their own reputations would not suffer.

Shirley Burton was brought to the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists from Pacific Union College in Angwin, California, the town where Steiner helped put together Megatrend Communications, Inc. and where Steiner was personally blackballed by Robert Folkenberg. ( Exhibit # 11 )

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    10) The power and influence of the Seventh-day Adventist Church was used by Folkenberg and McClure to ensure that everything that could be done was done to keep David Koresh from receiving a complete and fair trial in a court of law.

The leaders of the SDA Church were concerned about the image and reputation of the SDA Church, and knew that if they could keep Koresh and his followers out of years of court battles, the SDA Church would have a better chance at keeping the media from associating the SDA Church with the Branch Davidian SDA Church.

Folkenberg and McClure knew that if David Koresh could be trapped, the U.S. government would never get Koresh out of the Mount Carmel compound alive because Koresh had to burn himself and his followers to death in order to fulfill Koresh's own prophecies. They knew that Koresh had created a small loyal force of men called the "Royal Guard" or the "Mighty Men" ( Exhibit #12 ), who would follow any and all directions given by Koresh, including torching themselves and those present in Mount Carmel (AKA "Ranch Apocalypse").

Folkenberg and McClure chose to withhold this information from the federal government and its agents because they did not want to impede or even alter the kind of movement that they needed from the U.S. government in order to rid themselves of Koresh.

By withholding this information from the U.S. government, Folkenberg and McClure have, to this day, allowed many citizens of the United States to believe that the U.S. government started the fire at Waco. Folkenberg and McClure know that if they admit the level of manipulation they created in the Mount Carmel raid, the blame for the raid and the fire might be deflected from the White House, the Attorney General, the Treasury Department, the BATF and the FBI directly onto them, Folkenberg and McClure.

    10) Over the past ten years Folkenberg and McClure have used the power and influence of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to destroy David Steiner's reputation, get Steiner indicted by the federal court and locked up in jail and then prison.

On behalf of Folkenberg and McClure, Helen Rogers worked hard to get a federal investigator to take action against David Steiner. Rogers finally got Stanley Walker of the FBI to work with her and have a federal grand jury indict Steiner based on the lies of plaintiffs Rogers conducted and put together for Walker. (Rogers is from Nashville, Tennessee and is held in very low esteem by the legal community.)

Lowell Plubell, D.D.S., whose brother (Gilbert Plubell) is in charge of all of the SDA school systems and works closely with Folkenberg, worked with Stanley Walker to become a plaintiff in the case United States vs. Steiner. (Exhibit #13)

Stanley Walker did not represent the truth to the grand jury, and, Walker has not allowed the accounting and financial records to be seen or studied by Steiner's and/or Thiele's defense teams (even in light of a federal judge's order), and has done just about everything possible to make sure that Steiner and Thiele go to prison without a complete and fair trial.

Steiner and Thiele are innocent and deserve a chance to prove it without constant interference from Walker.
    ( Exhibit # 14 )

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    11) The order from the U. S. Attorney General, the U. S. Treasury Department and the BATF was not to raid the compound at Mount Carmel if the element of surprise had been lost.

During 1993 Steiner met many times with Stephen Studdert ("Studdert") for advice and direction.

Studdert told Steiner that he had been a White House Aide to President Ford, President Reagan and President Bush, and was now an employee of President Clinton.
    ( Exhibit # 15 )

Studdert told Steiner that the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists had been sending in SDA Church representatives and/or lobbyists to different government agencies, for over six months before the raid on Mount Carmel, to influence the government to do something about David Koresh.

Studdert told Steiner that Studdert believed that someone on the scene in Waco pushed the envelope beyond the orders of Janet Reno and the Washington, D.C. BATF, and went ahead with the raid even though the element of surprise had been lost.

Studdert said that Studdert believed that even though Janet Reno had openly accepted responsibility for the fire at Mount Carmel, the person truly responsible for the fire was the person who went against the orders and had been influenced directly or indirectly by a contact representing the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, i.e., Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure.

    11) Stephen Studdert told Steiner that in Steiner's case Helen Rogers had been used by Folkenberg and McClure to attack him unmercifully in federal civil court, which had created a familiarity between the federal government and Steiner over a ten year period.

Studdert said that one of Studdert's contacts had told him that Helen Rogers, on behalf of Folkenberg and McClure, had found someone in a lower position of the FBI who was retirement age (Stanley Walker) and was willing to work with her.

Stanley Walker's superiors in the FBI have placed trust in Walker that Walker will do his investigations in a professional and honest manner. Walker has instead run a very incompetent, dishonest and incomplete investigation.

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    12) It is very important to Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure that the U. S. Senate or the U. S. Congress not conduct an exhaustive and open investigation of the Mount Carmel events.

Steiner believes that a complete review of those events will show that the events would not have happened if someone on the Mount Carmel site had not been compromised by a contact representing the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure.

Steiner believes that innocent adults and children were killed and hurt, both in the BATF and the Branch Davidian compound, because Folkenberg and McClure chose to misrepresent the truth to the U.S. government.

Steiner believes that with a complete investigation it will become clear that the U.S. Attorney General, the U.S. Treasury Department, the FBI and the BATF did their jobs as best they could, considering that they were kept in the dark about the doomsday teachings and the hidden relationship between the Branch Davidian SDA Church and the SDA Church.

    12) Before Stephen Studdert had worked out an estoppel for Steiner with then President Bush, Studdert shared some insights with Steiner.

Studdert told Steiner that Steiner needed to be aware that if the money and influence of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure were directly or indirectly involved in an attempt to indict Steiner, that Steiner would find out that one of the central agents investigating Steiner would be someone with a questionable reputation, someone with family or friends in the SDA Church and/or someone on their way out.

Studdert told Steiner to be very aware that in cases where strong influence are involved, one might see the prosecution try to smother the facts the following ways:

    a) simply telling the defense investigating agent and/or attorney not to do much work on the case.

    b) making sure that the defense investigating agent and/or attorney doesn't get paid for their work and/or expenses until it is too late to gather information for the trial.

    c) helping to create events to scare away a strong and aggressive defense by using direct and indirect threats on investigators and/or attorneys.

    d) tampering with the evidence.

Studdert later told Steiner not to worry about being harassed anymore because Studdert had gotten an estoppel for Steiner from the President of the United States, George Walker Bush.

For some strange reason the estoppel didn't stop Steiner and John Thiele from being indicted. David Steiner and John Thiele's families have been hurt and are being hurt beyond belief because Folkenberg and McClure have chosen to misrepresent the truth to the U.S. government in order to make themselves and the SDA Church look good.

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    13) Stephen Studdert told Steiner that Folkenberg and McClure directed the Seventh-day Adventist Church to give money to the families of the BATF agents who were wounded or died in the raid. Studdert told Steiner that they did this because someone on the lower end of the BATF had done them the favor of taking care of Koresh, and they felt that politically, they needed to show empathy and support to the BATF.

After the Mount Carmel raid, Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure had the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists hire several major public relation and promotional firms to do damage control to the image that the raid on Mount Carmel might make on the SDA Church. (Exhibit # 16)

Steiner believes that you will also find that the SDA Church will go to almost any length to cover-up its involvement in the raid.

    13) Before Studdert got an estoppel for Steiner, Studdert told Steiner that only a very well developed cover-up could and would keep a complete investigation into Steiner's possible indictment from uncovering a direct or indirect link to Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure.

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    14) When the Waco crisis suddenly broke on February 28, the phones began buzzing at the General Conference of SDA headquarter. Shirley Burton (who ten months earlier had been responsible for prompting the BATF to begin their investigation of Koresh) and her staff at the General Conference of SDA Communication Department were on the phones from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for days thereafter.

Mrs. Burton and her office sent correspondence by fax to all local unions and conferences and encouraged them to hold interviews with the media. Later, her office reversed itself and sent out another fax to all Adventist entities not to be interviewed but to refer all inquiries to Gary Patterson (administrative assistant to the president of the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists, Alfred McClure) who had gone to Texas so he could be close to the action.

In 1984 Gary Patterson was removed from his office as president of the Cumberland, Georgia Conference of Seventh-day Adventists by the constituency because he so strongly favored "The New SDA Theology."
    ( Exhibit # 17 )

The vote to remove Patterson happened just months after Robert Pierson (past president of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists) had revealed to Steiner that he and others were hearing rumors that Joseph J. Battistone, Alfred McClure and others were preparing to use The Rebok Research Foundation as a political force to bring about "The New Theology." (Exhibit # 18)

    14) Gary Patterson and Joseph J. Battistone have been and remain best friends.

In 1984 Joseph J. Battistone told Steiner that if Steiner were to reveal any of the secret intentions of The Rebok Research Foundation, Battistone's friends would at some point destroy Steiner and restore Battistone's position in the SDA Church.

Steiner has been told that after ten years of Battistone not being allowed to work for the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Joseph J. Battistone was given a large SDA Church to pastor in Seattle, Washington around the same time period that Steiner was indicted.

Gary Patterson has been working on behalf of Alfred McClure for the past five years to monitor and communicate information concerning David Steiner, Joseph J. Battistone and The Rebok Research Foundation.

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    15) I understand that Kenneth J. Mittleider (one of several general vice-presidents of the Seventh-day Adventist Church) wished to go to Waco and talk to a personal contact who was one of the leaders in the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church. Kenneth J. Mittleider felt that he knew this contact well enough have talk him out of the compound along with perhaps others and their children. ( Exhibit # 19 )

Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure told Mittleider that he could not go to Waco and that he was not to talk about his relationships with any of the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist members.

Folkenberg and McClure were worried that if the government or the national news media got their hands on that information, they would begin putting together the relationship between the two Seventh-day Adventist Churches.

I also believe that Folkenberg and McClure didn't want to be connected to their roles in the usurping of the orders from Washington, D.C. not to raid the Mount Carmel compound if the element of surprise had been lost.

    15) In 1984, The Rebok Research Foundation collapsed because Joseph J. Battistone got concerned that Robert Pierson and other good men were becoming suspicious of what the true intentions of the Foundation was.

In 1985, Robert Folkenberg was transferred from his position as an officer in the Inter-America Division where he had been an administrator, to a lower position as President of the Carolina Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Robert Folkenberg was moved to North Carolina so that he could do damage control for Alfred McClure and Joseph J. Battistone concerning the collapse of The Rebok Research Foundation. It was very important to keep the information secret concerning the method by which Folkenberg, McClure and others were planning to be catapulted into controlling the world SDA Church.

It was the responsibility of Kenneth J. Mittleider to work with Robert Folkenberg to keep the information about the true and secret intentions of The Rebok Research Foundation from getting out to the general SDA membership.

By working indirectly with Helen Rogers, an attorney representing the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Kenneth J. Mittleider, Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure have tried to assassinate Steiner's reputation, Steiner's character and Steiner's credibility, thus making Steiner's information about The Rebok Research Foundation possibly not credible.

    David Koresh
    David Steiner

    16) There is a common theme that is connected to each of the following three events which happened on the same day of different years: the Randy Weaver incident that took place in Ruby Ridge, Idaho, the David Koresh incident that took place in Waco, Texas, and the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The common theme is not the fact that they are connected to the militia but that they are Sabbatarians who happen to be connected to a militia. Each of these events expose the mindsets of people who are raised in or attracted to Sabbatarian cults.

Andy Weaver observed the Sabbath on Saturday. In the past, Weaver's family members had a lot of contact with S.D.A. members and teachers.

The Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church members, and David Koresh, are Sabbatarians.

The Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Seventh-day Adventist Church and many other small Sabbatarian cults beleive in the observance of the Jewish Sabbath which causes members to feel special and superior to non believers. Because of the way the Sabbath is incorporated into the interpretation of prophecies, members of these groups tend to get suspicious and learn to hate the U.S. government and all Christians who observe Sunday as their day to worship and rest.

The SDA Church is the Waco of Wacos waiting to happen. David Koresh ("Baby Koresh") was nothing, when compared to what Robert Folkenberg ("Papa Koresh") and McClure are capable of.

    16) Folkenberg and McClure were convinced by Joseph Battistone that if the Sabbath issue were ever put up for debate, between the Seventh-day Adventist Church members and someone with a strong background in the Oral Law of the Old Testament (the Talmud), the Seventh-day Adventists would come out of the debate looking very strange and stupid.

Battistone told Steiner that this debate could not be allowed to happen because it would pull the primary foundational doctrine out from under the SDA Church. Battistone said that there were too many people with big money in the SDA Church to even allow such a public debate.

    Question

In the last week of 1996, Elder Kenneth Wade placed a message on the Adventist Forum, a tightly controlled Adventist Church talk forum on CompuServe, asking for information concerning David Steiner FKA Vernon Lee Leggett. Elder Kenneth Wade wrote:

"My interest is mainly because the site mentions me, and the book I wrote, "The Orion Conspiracy". I have read portions of the site, which are fairly self-explanatory. I HONESTLY never heard of Samuel David Steiner or Vernon Leggett or any of the other people he assumes the book is about prior to someone pointing out this site to me. The intent of this message is simply to allow me to have some background on why this individual would be attacking Adventists in general and me in particular on the net. The first I ever heard of him was on Sunday.

    Thanks.

    Ken Wade"

The connections that are laid out in this web site make me very suspicious that there has been, and may continue to be, a very heavy dose of lying going on.

Is there a connection between Elder Kenneth Wade, (thank you for posting this link, THE SILENCE OF THE DEMONS, on David Steiner's birthday, October 11) and Samuel David Steiner that you haven't alluded to in this web site?

    Answer

The novel called "The Orion Conspiracy: a story of the end", explains in story form the teachings of the SDA Church. A book called "The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan", which was written by the late prophetess of the SDA Church, Ellen G. White, was used as the background for "The Orion Conspiracy". (There are members of the SDA Church who hold the writings of Ellen G. White above the Bible.) The main theme in both of these books is that the world is coming to an end soon, how it will happen and how it is connected to the SDA interpretation of Sabbath observance on Saturday instead of Sunday.

"The Great Controversy" explains the SDA Church belief that "certain lights that fall" from the SDA Church will be instrumental in exposing the SDA Church prophesies and teachings to the U.S. government. "The Orion Conspiracy" could almost be seen as a blueprint prepared by the SDA Church for the U.S. government, on how the U.S. government is supposed to investigate and try to shut down the SDA Church.

To the SDA Church "The Great Controversy" was inspired by God to help SDA members understand how the final days of earth's history will unfold. It explains how the U.S. government will persecute, put in jail and even kill SDA members for choosing to worship on Saturday instead of Sunday. It teaches that SDA members will have to run for their lives into the mountains and forests to hide. It explains that all people will either be taken up in the air headed for "heaven", or those not taken to heaven will be "burned with fire and totally destroyed". ( Exhibit # 20 ) This topic, more than any other, gets SDA Church members excited about being a part of this "remnant church", and prepares members for the end of the world and the return of the Messiah.

"The Orion Conspiracy" was written by Ken Wade and published by the Pacific Press Publishing Association, a SDA Church owned and operated press. There is a reading committee that makes sure that anything that is printed that even has a possibility of being controversial is brought to higher authorities for review.

Ken Wade is a friend of Robert Folkenberg, Al McClure and Joseph Battistone. The quality in which this book was written is embarrassing.

Robert Folkenberg and Alfred McClure must have had knowledge of the theme of this book before it was written, because in the book the SDA Church's president and vice-president are arrested by the secret service. I do not believe that this arrest theme could have been printed without the consent of Folkenberg and McClure.

A group of people from my past may well have been given their input to the theme and storyline of this book even though there may have only been one person who communicated their ideas directly to Ken Wade. They are the following:

    1) Joseph Battistone has a Ph.D. from Duke University. Battistone is a SDA expert in the writings of Ellen G. White, especially "The Great Controversy".

When Battistone used to tell his friends about my goals with The Orion Institute ( Exhibit # 21 ), Battistone would say that I was envisioning a smart apocalypse bug or bugs that would create outbreaks of disease and death that would be so devastating that it would be like an asteroid coming at this planet.

    2) Raymond Ruckel is my cousin and is a SDA minister. I have been told that Ruckel has been meeting with Folkenberg and McClure during the past six years, and that Ruckel and his family were given a free trip to the Netherlands so that they could be present at the reelection of Folkenberg and McClure. (Exhibit # 22)

Ruckel has told people that he saw me levitating during meditation in 1987, that I am a "New Ager" and that I channel messages from a source in the constellation of Orion. Ruckel has told people that satan is deceiving me, is transmitting information to me, and is going to make sure that the goals of The Orion Institute are understood by the world. Ruckel has also told people that it is possible that there may be anger against the SDA leaders for stopping me from achieving my goals in building The Orion Institute.

    3) Bill Moore, D.D.S. and I grew up together. Bill told me that he had been shown by God that I would be involved in exposing the SDA Church to the U.S. government one day if I didn't return to "the love of the truth." ( Exhibit # 23 )

    4) Robert Knipple, D.D.S.

    5) Lowell Plubell, D.D.S. has a brother who is Secretary of Education of the General Conference of SDAs, and works directly under Robert Folkenberg.

The picture on the cover of the book is supposed to be an apartment in a city somewhere back east but you will notice that it resembles the type of apartments that are in San Francisco, California. In 1991 Lowell Plubell leased an apartment in San Francisco that had a top floor and later, for the purpose of the indictment against Thiele and Steiner, alleged that the apartment was really Steiner's.

    6) Robert Folkenberg, after The Rebok Research Foundation collapsed, visited the home of Bill Moore, D.D.S. and talked about my goals with the Orion Institute. They also discussed ways to keep the covert information about The Rebok Research Foundation from getting out and hurting McClure and his political designs.

Bill Moore once told me that they considered the goals of Orion to be evil. Bill said that they felt like the focus was being taken away from preparing to go to heaven, and was deceiving people into believing that cures for diseases and aging might one day be discovered. There is no way the word "Orion" would have been allowed to be used because of its connection to me, unless Folkenberg wanted it to be used.

    7) Alfred McClure

"The Orion Conspiracy" weaves the characters of John Thiele ("James"), Polly Wood ("a woman") and me ("Pete") into quite a story.

Pete is a computer hacker who receives messages from a source with a code name of Orion, coming from the direction of the constellation Orion. This source is called satan and, later on in the book, the anti-Christ.

Pete's best friend is James. James is very smart but doesn't like to talk. James always lets Pete do the talking because that is what he does best.

The messages coming from Orion are always dealing with giving Pete information on how to cure AIDS and other diseases, as well as famine. I don't believe that this is a coincidence.

A woman who had been very sexually abused from childhood enters the scene (Polly Wood was sexually abused as a child). She begins learning about the SDA message. (When Polly was working with Lowell Plubell, Denise was told by Polly that Lowell and Robert Knipple were beginning to teach her about their church and its prophecies.)

This woman is always working to get James to distance himself from Pete. (Polly Wood tried to split John Thiele and Steiner up.)

When Pete and James get arrested, it is stated that James would never have been in this kind of trouble if it weren't for the ring leader, Pete. (This is what Polly Wood told Denise would happen to Thiele if he kept working with Steiner.)

James turns to the SDA Church and learns that it is his destiny to speak up about the truth of the SDA teachings, while Pete helps bring the anger and hostility against the SDA Church and thus brings on the events of the last days of earth's history.

In the end, James gets to go
